It was late in the evening and Sonia could do nothing but stare at her bedrooms ceiling. Beside her In bed her husband, Seth, read his book quietly, allowing the sound of the clock on the wall alone to fill the soundscape. They were the only two left in this house that felt now too big and empty for just the two. It’d been nearly a week since their youngest child moved out and Sonia could do nothing but despair.
“How ya holding up.” Seth broke the silence at the end of his latest chapter, setting the book down on his nightstand.
“I think so…” Sonia eventually sounded off after a long exhale. “The house just seems so boring now that it’s just the two of us.
“Well we’ve got a lot of free time now.” Seth offered. “We could pick up on date nights again? Or maybe get into some hobbies?”
“We could. But it’s not so much that as… I wish we had a baby in the house again… let me feel young again…” she trailed off
“You really wish that?” Seth raised an eyebrow
She took a minute to think it over before eventually nodding “yeah, I think I do. But we’re still years out from any hope of grandkids, so what can you do?” And with that she rolled over in bed to go to sleep. Seth sat there in bed for a minute, gears turning before he turned out the light.
The next morning Sonia was surprised to wake up and find Seth…
