He ran after Piplup as he headed towards Route 202. But after running into a bush, he fell backwards.
"Piplup!"
"Are you OK?"
That second voice caught his attention. He looked over the bush to see a cute brunette with a Piplup rubbing his head.
She introduced herself as Dawn from Twinleaf Town, explaining how her starter was chasing a Shinx when they met.
"Oh! Do you play?" she asked, pointing at the flute.
Skylar mentally shrugged. He wasn't bad, not having any real practice with it, but she was cute enough that he wanted to show off a bit.
As he started playing, his emotion fed the instrument and he found the sound far better than he expected.
For Dawn, the music might as well have been coming from a Meloetta. It twisted itself around her heart and began playing her. She found herself drawn to him, just as a Beldum is drawn to another Beldum before they became a Metang.
