Carolyn Jekyll had long resented her family name, ridiculed incessantly for her great-grandfather’s blunders in creating the monstrous Mr. Hyde, who had tormented London.
Still, as a recent graduate entering the world, she wanted to take her future into her own hands and make something of herself. She had always heard that artists copy and great artists steal. She reasoned that with her degree in chemical engineering, she could figure out what had gone wrong with her great-grandfather’s formula. The healing potential of the formula alone warranted a second look.
After months of work, Carolyn finally identified the problem. A misaligned protein had allowed a chain reaction to propagate in hosts. With that corrected, there was no chance a new Hyde would appear. The only question was how to test the formula. Her grandfather had tested it on himself, but perhaps that wasn’t the best idea…
