With the fractured and often repeating elements of the timeline, Hyrule had abundant opportunities to interfere. The only questions were who and how.

The princess Zelda was an obvious choice. Already in a position of authority, she had the confidence of the most important individuals in the realm. As for the how, the goddess watched over the many fractured adventures and found inspiration. She could create new masks of power, capable of transforming or granting abilities.

Urbosa was one of the champions and the Gerudo chief before she fell in battle to Calamity Ganon. While both calamity Ganon and his unbound mortal form were defeated, the dark power lived on. The goddess contemplated altering the power’s plan. It would no doubt seek to revive its old master, she would simply redirect it to Urbosa 's soul. She would be reincarnated as the dark lord.

Malon, a simple farm girl who grew up through the worst of Ganondorf’s reign. After the hardship she was put through she dreamed of the life of someone like princess Zelda. A simple enough wish to grant. She could easily find that the life of a noble is full of backstabbing, politicking, and schemes not fit for an honest woman. A privileged life balanced on the edge of a knife, what would she give up to keep it.

The scientist Purah, now that her body was fit enough for more dangerous expeditions, was working with newly uncovered ancient tech. A product of one of Hyrule’s darker pasts, this armor was used to turn people into living weapons capable of self replication. All that stood Hyrule and this surge was one failed safeguard.
