The warm autumn sun filtered through the leaves of the big oak tree in the schoolyard, casting playful shadows on the ground as Lily, Danielle, and Sonja gathered together during recess. “Okay, everyone! Are we ready for our mission?” Sonja called out, the gleam in her eyes radiating enthusiasm that only a six-year-old could truly cultivate. Her hair bounced in vivid curls as she gestured dramatically.
Lily, who had donned a bright yellow dress that made her feel like Captain Kirk of the candy-colored universe, nodded fiercely. “I’m ready! Let’s go explore new worlds!”
Danielle, with her nurse’s scrubs pulled over her cute little outfit, giggled and struck a pose. “And I’ll take care of the sick crew members! Just like Nurse Chapel!” Her wide grin fitted perfectly into the playful spirit of their game.
The boys from their class gathered around, each bursting with excitement, wearing makeshift costumes crafted from whatever they could find—old cloaks, cardboard boxes, and plenty of imaginations. Alexander, with his tousled hair, took on the role of Spock, while another boy, Ethan, flared his arms as he pretended to be Captain Kirk.
