The Great Elowen stood at the center of the stage, his hands raised as if commanding the very air around him. The audience’s anticipation was palpable, the collective breath held in a moment of suspended disbelief. Elowen’s eyes twinkled with a mixture of amusement and challenge as he glanced at the Thompson family, particularly at Jake, who remained engrossed in his phone, oblivious to the unfolding drama.
“Let us begin with something truly transformative,” Elowen announced, his voice resonating with a mysterious undertone. He extended his right hand toward Jake, who sat slouched in his seat, thumbs tapping away at the screen of his smartphone.
“Jake, young man,” Elowen called out, his voice smooth as velvet. “Would you care to join me in an experiment that will undoubtedly capture your attention?”
Jake barely looked up, muttering under his breath, “Yeah, whatever,” before returning to his phone. His siblings exchanged curious glances, while Jack and Sarah watched with a mix of skepticism and interest.
Undeterred, Elowen gave a knowing smile and flicked his wrist. A subtle shimmer of light enveloped Jake, unnoticed by him but catching the attention of the rest of the audience. The air around him seemed to hum with an invisible force.
“Let us see how deeply you can immerse yourself in the magic of the moment,” Elowen intoned, his voice a melodic whisper that carried to every corner of the theater.
Jake’s posture began to change. At first, it was imperceptible—a slight shift in his seat, a stretch of his legs. Then, his clothes started to tighten. The audience watched in fascination as his sneakers creaked, the seams straining against his growing feet. His jeans, once comfortably loose, began to constrict around his thighs and calves.
Jack leaned forward, eyes wide. “What’s happening to him?”
Sarah’s mouth opened in a mix of awe and disbelief. “Is this some kind of trick?”
Max, eyes glued to his brother, shouted, “Jake, look! You’re growing!”
But Jake remained oblivious, his attention still locked on his phone.
The transformation accelerated. Jake’s shoes, unable to contain the expanding flesh, burst open with a loud rip, sending fragments of leather and rubber scattering across the floor. His feet, now monstrous in size, pressed against the seats in front of him, causing the audience members to scramble out of the way.
Jake finally looked up, confusion etched on his face. “What the—?”
His jeans split at the seams, the fabric tearing apart to reveal his rapidly enlarging legs. The waistband snapped, and the remnants of his pants fluttered to the ground like tattered rags. His shirt followed suit, buttons popping off and flying in all directions as his torso expanded. His phone, now minuscule in his giant hand, fell to the floor with a clatter.
Jack stood up, his voice a mix of alarm and amazement. “Jake! What’s going on?”
Sarah clutched Lily closer, her eyes wide with terror. “This is impossible!”
Jake’s head brushed against the theater’s ornate ceiling, causing plaster to crack and crumble. He raised his hands, now the size of dinner plates, to shield his head. “What’s happening to me?” he shouted, his voice booming through the grand theater.
Elowen, calm and composed, stepped forward. “Ladies and gentlemen, behold the power of true magic. Jake, you have become a giant among men, a testament to the boundless possibilities that lie within the realm of the extraordinary.”
Max, eyes shining with excitement, cheered, “This is awesome! Jake, you’re a giant!”
Jake, now towering over the spectators, looked down at his family with a mixture of shock and bewilderment. “I didn’t ask for this!” he exclaimed, his voice causing the chandeliers to sway.
Jake continued to grow. His shoulders pressed against the walls of the theater, causing the ornate plaster to crack and crumble. His legs stretched out, his feet now covering entire rows of seats. The audience watched in a mixture of awe and terror as Jake's growth showed no signs of stopping.
Jack and Sarah exchanged panicked glances. “Elowen, stop this!” Jack shouted, his voice edged with desperation. “Turn him back!”
