Many adventures begin with tragedy, and this one is unfortunately no exception. When young Lilly was just four years old, she lost both of her parents in a plane crash. With no direct relatives to take care of her, she was sent to live with her mom's second cousin and his wife.
While the couple begrudgingly accepted Lilly into their home, they themselves had never had any intention of raising children, and they put the bare minimum of effort into caring for her. She ate leftovers at best and stale bread at worst. Her clothes were the cheapest things available at the thrift store, if not straight up plucked from the dumpster, and she only ever got new ones when her current outfits became completely unwearable. She wasn't physically abused, but she was neglected to the point her relatives barely acknowledged her existence.
By the time she was 8 years old, enough was enough. Lilly was leaving, because even homelessness had to be better than her current situation. She had spent the last 10 days creating a rope out of whatever bedsheets she could get her hands on, since she wasn't provided her own, and had just dangled it out of her window. Now all that was left to do was change and pack for her departure.
Unfortunately, she was interrupted mid-changing by the sound of footsteps approaching the door. She had figured she was safe, since her relatives never checked on her, but they must have noticed the missing sheets. Her only option was to cut her losses and get out of there that minute, leaping out the window and sliding down her bedsheet rope before yanking it to the ground with her, and dashing into the woods before anyone saw.
The unfortunate thing, however, was that she'd never finished getting dressed. She grimaced as she looked down at herself. She was wearing...
