Chapter #2

Tim is sick of being treated like a baby

The aroma of a home-cooked meal wafted through the Roderick household as dinner preparations were underway. Tim sat in the living room, legs dangling from the couch, his eyes fixated on the peculiar lamp. The room was filled with the chatter of his family members bustling around, setting the table and arranging dishes.

A frown creased Tim's forehead as he muttered to himself, "I hate it when they treat me like a little kid. I wish they'd treat me like an adult for once." He glanced at the lamp, half-expecting it to respond, but, of course, it remained silent.

Before he could dwell on his thoughts any longer, Ellen's voice echoed from the dining room, "Tim, come on! Dinner's ready."

Tim rolled his eyes and grumbled under his breath, "Coming." He stood up, adjusting the collar of his oversized shirt, a constant reminder of his perceived childishness in the eyes of his siblings.

As he entered the dining room, the air buzzed with anticipation. The family gathered around the table, and Tim took his usual seat. Jack carved the roast with practiced precision, and the savory scent filled the room. Justin and Moriah exchanged playful banter, creating an atmosphere of warmth and familiarity.

Tim, however, couldn't shake off the feeling of being treated like the baby of the family. His frustration simmered beneath the surface as he glanced at the adult-sized portion of vegetables on his plate.

"Seriously, guys, I can handle more than this. I'm not a little kid anymore," Tim asserted, his voice laced with defiance.

Justin chuckled, exchanging a glance with Jack. "Come on, Tim, don't be in such a hurry to grow up. Enjoy being a kid while you can."

Moriah giggled, her eyes wide with innocence, "Yeah, Timmy, being a kid is fun!"

Tim's face flushed with frustration, and he blurted out, "I wish you all would stop treating me like a baby!"

A moment of awkward silence hung in the air as the family exchanged glances. Tim, feeling a mix of embarrassment and regret, quickly diverted his attention to his plate, hoping to bury the tension with a mouthful of food.

The room fell silent, the only sound the clinking of utensils against plates. Unbeknownst to Tim, the lamp in the living room seemed to shimmer faintly, absorbing his words with a subtle glow.

As the family continued their dinner, unaware of the latent magic within the lamp, Tim excused himself from the table, leaving to go back to the living room. Little did he know that his uttered wish might soon take an unexpected turn, and the lamp would weave its quiet magic into the tapestry of the Roderick family's life.
