The toys, bed and food were all a sign that Sami was planning on having a dog for quite some time, and within a day, it was clear that dog was you. She called you Snuggles, and never once used your human name, she never glanced at her phone app, and your heads up display in the corner of your canine vision confirmed the app was in sleep mode. It was hard to be angry, because you were a puppy, and your hormones and growth messed with your mind, as did your dog instincts. As much as you might want to sulk away and show your tucked tail to your girlfriend, a few squeaks from a toy, or the rattle of the treat jar, and you were scampering right back to your owner. And that was the most galling part of this: you liked it! Your puppy body was perfectly imprinted on Sami as your master, coming when she called your name before you could stop yourself. BY the end of the fourth day, you realized that it was getting increasingly hard to think of yourself by your human name, and well, dammit, you just loved tummy scratches!
The second week had started, when Sami answered her phone and her face took on a concerned, then slightly shocked expression, before you heard her say "Ohh, wow, I didn't know he hadn't called, its Covid, yeah, still symptoms. Let me check his phone....oh, looks like he emailed, maybe check your spam folder. Ok, bye, thank you, I will tell him" She ends the call and looks down at your wagging tail self, and sighs "This was fun, but I really let myself get carried away, and while I love having a puppy, I need to remember I have a boyfriend who I happen to share with reality....so, I wuv you mister Snuggles....maybe you can come back sometime, for longer if your daddy agrees to it" But she stands up, and opens the app, hitting revert. A flash of light, and....
When it clears, you blink and you can see color again! You're standing on two legs, not four. But you can't smell Sami anymore and you really liked her smell. Shaking your head "Babe, the hell? Two weeks, I thought you were gonna just keep me a puppy for good...." she sighs and looks down "I know, I wasn't really thinking, but you were so cute, and I just got carried away! But you have to admit, my reasons for wanting a dog are valid, right?" You pace a bit and sigh, "Yeah, you were really good with me, but when we decide to get a puppy, a real puppy, we need to talk first" she smiles and claps because you said when not if. To sweeten the deal, you add "Besides, we need to make sure whatever dog we bring home plays good with Mr. Snuggles" and you wink and bark, causing her to laugh.
"So you told work I was down with Covid? and I emailed in, versus calling? Nice try, but I will send an email with the truth...since I am beta testing they wanted reports. Let me do that before they actually get upset" You go to your computer, log in and email, and send a summary of what happened... and while you check your other emails and stuff from spending a week and half as a puppy, your inbox dings, and you read the email with ever increasing suprise. Responding and closing your computer down, you head back to Sami and let her know:
