Memories flooded Lila's head and her companions watched her eyes dance as she thought about the choices they had in front of them. Shivers ran throughout their bodies, their breath danced in the air before it fell in small ice balls, and their feet shifted in the light carpet of snow. Freedom felt warm against the frigid cold, yet crowded conditions and strange food beckoned, what to do next?
"We should find shelter or make something. Does anyone have matches? We can collect firewood."
Who was she kidding? They were at the mercy of the weather and environment. The closest town was about 10 miles away and they didn't know anyone There was no guarantee of freedom if they were turned in to the authorities.
"Well, we can take our chances or return to misery. Watcha say?"
"I wanna go back, but I don't wanna go back." "I'm with the majority."
"ok, so which way should we go?"
Everyone scanned the area and then stared at each other. The snow thickened, they shivered, and their continence fell. A vehicle rumbled down the road. The engine noise, faint, and then gradually becomes louder.
"The road must be that way, I hear an engine."
"Let's go! Maybe we can hitch a ride somewhere."
Scrambling toward the road their hearts quickened, and their blood rushed through their veins. Warmth streamed through them.
