I had never been particularly close to my grandmother. So when she passed away, I really wasn't expecting to inherit anything from her. But low and behold, I had received a small, velvet box at the wake. Taking a peek, all I could see inside was a small, silver ring. One that looked like it could fit on my grandmother's finger. I thought it was a bit of an odd thing to leave me, seeing as it almost certainly wouldn't fit, but I decided to just leave it for now, I'd examine it further once I got home.
It was an exhausting day, but I did make it home in one piece, and I decided to open grandma's box again, take another look at the memento she left to me. Except the ring was different now. It was bigger now, bigger than it was earlier. Now it was a full silver band, much less of a ring and...actually...it looked like it could fit me. I tried it on, and it fit like a glove, perfectly over my ring finger. I never really wore rings, but if nothing else, this felt right.
Shortly after, I changed into pajamas and got into bed, falling asleep quite quickly. But to say my night was uneventful would have been just blatantly incorrect. I had what must've been the strangest dream of my entire life that night.
In my dream, I saw strange colors and visions of my life. Various people I've looked up to, admired, or fancied by some means...then the strangest part occurred when a voice spoke out to me in a booming voice:
HE WHO WEARS THE RING OF BODILY PERFECTION!!! BY WEARING THE RING YOU HAVE GAINED ITS POWERS!! YOU CAN BE WHATEVER YOU WISH TO BE!! SIMPLY THINK IT, AND IT SHALL BE YOURS!!!
This whole experience was just feeling like a bad trip or something. I didn't think you could have headaches in your dreams, but God damn did it feel like the worst migraine I'd ever experienced. I felt like I was starting to pass out, the voice still pounding in my head:
SIMPLY THINK IT, AND IT SHALL BE YOURS!!!
And with that voice unrelenting in the back of my skull, the last thing I thought of before I passed out was... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
