Chapter #3

Hanging Out with the Extended Family

    by: worstfailure Author IconMail Icon
Blinking, you realized you didn't have plans with anyone in your house. That was strange, you were positive you could remember you were meeting with family.

Not all your family lives with you, dummy, you reminded yourself.

That's right! Yesterday you and Mari had brunch with your sister Jenna and her wife Piper. You remembered one of them pulling you aside to ask you for help with something, but you forgot who.

Wracking your brain, trying to remember who you talked with, and what about?

Was it Jenna? Once upon a time, you agreeing to help your little sister with something would've been a blunder of near suicidal proportions, but a lot had changed over the years. Jenna was no longer the abusive, prank-happy terror she'd been growing up. She'd matured into a responsible woman and your best friend, someone you'd trust with your life.

Maybe she wanted your help with something for the tiny advocacy group she founded, the Fair Tiny Treatment Foundation? But you also remembered Jenna mentioning an issue with Just Jacobs, the fashion brand she'd inherited from your retired mother Lauren. Maybe she needed help with that? Or maybe she just wanted to hang out with you? She'd mentioned wanting to get together more and it'd been a long time since the two of you spent a day together.

Or was it Piper? At 2 inches tall, your pink-haired sister-in-law was a mini-giantess to you, and she took far too much enjoyment in using her extraordinary size advantage to mess with you. Despite all her ribbing and roughhousing, however, you knew Piper loved you like a brother by blood instead of by marriage. Better than, in her case, since her flesh and blood brother had been an abusive scumbag before he went MIA years ago.

Piper had mentioned wanting to get your feedback on some new music that her band was working on. Maybe that was it? If so, it would do doubt mean a day hanging with the polycule that comprised her bandmates Dodger and Sydney and their stage manager/wife Rosa as well. But you also remembered her telling you about an idea she had for her and Jenna's anniversary. Of all things, it had something to do Ally Gator's, an old arcade where they met. You prayed that wasn't it, the animatronics at that place still gave you nightmares.

Or was it Aiden? You'd promised Jenna and Piper that you'd take your affected nephew under your wing to help him come out of his shell. He was a good kid and he looked up to you, but unfortunately being so sheltered meant he was very naive to the dangers that could arise for people of his and your height.

You remembered Piper asking if you could accompany Aiden on a tour of Small Wonders. But Jenna had also mentioned Aiden having a crush on an unaffected girl at Weston. Was it something to do with one of those?

Luckily Mari was passing by, allowing you to ask her to grab your phone from upstairs. If you weren't so stubborn you would've asked her to consult your calendar to remind you of your plans for today, but you knew admitting to such a slip would result in your wife teasing you that your memory was becoming just as bad as hers.

By the time Mari returned with your phone and kissed you goodbye, you didn't remember the whole picture, but you at least remembered who you were going to see...

Who is it?

1) It's Jenna.

2) It's Piper.

3) It's Aiden.
