Jenna snickered. "Seriously, I can't believe you forgot about this."
You threw up your hands. "Cut me some slack, Jenna. I just haven't fully woken up yet."
Lauren playfully bumped her daughter with her hip. "Yeah, Jenna. Maybe my big booty just squished the memory out of him. If not the first time, then definitely the second!" She began to laugh, and Jenna, surprised by her mother's candidness, joined in the laughter.
Your expression soured. "It'll come to me..." You said glumly.
Lauren sobered up, but still had a twinkle in her eye. "Oh, honey, I'm just teasing you. I know you've had a rough morning."
Jenna crossed her arms. "It's a special day, remember? A very special day? A day that we've been planning for quite a while?"
You frowned at Jenna. It was clear she was going to make you work for this, which was probably just playing into her obsession with constantly lording power over you. Tuning out her continued vaguely insulting taunts, you began to wrack your brain. A special day? What would make today so special?
*****
Was today the day that you and your friends and family were finally going to go to Golden Hawk Resort, that famous mountaintop retreat? You remember your mother excitedly booking the tickets, and Mari, Rio, and Ashley all agreeing to go with you, Jenna, and Lauren. It was going to be a week-long trip, and everyone was looking forward to it. The resort had world-class dining, private masseuses, saunas, spas, mud baths, a tanning salon, and everything in between, not to mention gorgeous mountain views and hiking trails. Was today the first day of that trip?
Or was today another trip entirely? You also remember that you and your sister had booked plane tickets to fly across the country to visit Aunt Cass and spend the summer with her. For such a big trip, how had it slipped your mind? Cass had been over the moon to hear that you both were coming to visit her, and was ecstatic to spend day after day showing you the sights near her gorgeous home, like the beach, boardwalk, amusement park, night clubs, and so much more. Of course, the idea of the trip made you hesitant, what with Cass' track record of unknowingly crushing and smushing you at every turn, and Jenna not doing you any favors. Was your flight today?
Or, wait...was it someone's birthday? For as good as your memory usually was, you were really bad at remembering dates for birthdays. It probably had something to do with your screwed up sense of time thanks to countless incidents crushed to the women in your life for long periods of time. Regardless, if it was a birthday, whose birthday was it? From Jenna and Lauren's expectant looks, that ruled them out. Was it Rio? Ashley? Or...god forbid, Mari? You'd totally forgotten to get any presents no matter who the birthday girl was, so you were really screwed.
Or was it...(TO BE ADDED IN THE FUTURE)
