This choice: "Four words. Shopping. At. The. Mall." • Go Back...Chapter #3Let's go to the mall! by: Reneg4de Alisa held up four fingers, her grin twisting into more of a devious smirk.
“Four words!” She announced grandly. “Can you guess it before I reveal all four?”
“Maybe?” Adam answered, coming to another stop at another red light. Man, they just weren't on his side today. “Do I get a hint?”
“First word! Shopping!”
Adam let out a laugh, leaning back in his seat. He glanced out his window, his head resting on his head rest, before it swung around to stare Alisa in her piercing sapphire eyes.
“You do realise that I bought two new t-shirts recently, and am therefore done shopping for the year?” Adam responded, drumming his fingers on the wheel. “But I'll play along… ah, got it! Shopping where I look longingly at cute clothes and lament how I wish I could afford it and how cute I'd look in it, all the while staring at my handsome and rugged boyfriend in the hopes he'll pick up on my unspoken message and buy it for me, saving me money that I'll use on yet more clothes?”
“That's more than four words,” Alisa pointed out with a huff, but she couldn't keep the smirk from her face. He knew her so well, even one word was enough for him to twig onto her master plan. “But you've got the gist of it, yeah. So how about it, my handsome and rugged boyfriend who I love so very much?”
“Well, my beautiful girlfriend who I think sees me more and more as a wallet with each passing day,” Adam grinned back, flicking his indicator up. “I suppose we could go have a look, but unless the clothes are really, really cute, don't think you're getting much out of me.”
“Ha, we'll see about that!”
Turning towards the road that led to the mall, the couple rode in silence for a little bit. Alisa looked to be scrolling through TikTok, while Adam couldn't do much but drive and occasionally allow his eyes to flick over to his girlfriend. Man, she was gorgeous…

“And here we are!”
Pulling into a parking space relatively close to the mall, a surprise given it was after school on a Friday, Adam reached over and plucked Alisa’s phone from her hands. She let out a whine before looking up, clearly disgruntled at having her entertainment taken from her. When she finally processed his words, looking towards the mall, he handed it back to her.
“Wow, a close space,” Alisa noted as she got out. “I think this'll be a lucky trip!”
Adam merely grunted in response, taking a moment to look at himself in the rear-view mirror. His reflection looked normal, the same face with a hint of stubble from his shave that morning, the same brown eyes, the same jawline. At the same time, he could almost see… well, a different face almost lying beneath his. Rubbing his eyes, he dismissed the thought and got out, joining Alisa at the back of his truck. She took his hand in her hers, practically skipping as she pulled him towards the mall.
“Okay!” Releasing his hand the moment she crossed the threshold, Alisa clapped excitedly, the sound audible even over the cacophony of voices talking and laughing. “I wanna look in a few clothing stores, maybe at some shoes as well… oh, and my mum asked me to grab a few bits on the way home, so a stop in the grocery shop to round us off!”
“Uh-huh… and when do we visit my stores in all this?” Adam asked with the hint of a chuckle to his voice. “You know, the game store… and that's it, really”.
“Urgh, again? We just went there last week!” Alisa protested, locking eyes with the nearest clothing shop and started towards it, Adam trudging along behind her.
“Yeah, but they change stock weekly,” Adam shot back. “If you wanna play that game, why are we going into this place, huh? We were also here last week”.
“Touche,” Alisa shrugged, a playful smirk on her face. “It's next to the shoe place, right? We'll stop in on the way past”.
“All I need to hear,” Adam held his hands up, appeased by the promised visit to his favourite store. “Now, if you need me, I'll be in my usual spot near the changing rooms”.
“Oh no, mister!”
Before he could escape, a hand wrapped around his wrist, its grip shockingly tight. Alisa slowly pulled him back, her playful smirk now a dark, devious grin.
“You're helping me look, and I'm not accepting half-assed work. I need a new tank-top, in black, a new pair of jeans, also in black though I'll accept dark denim, and if you spot anything cute, you'll point it out. If you don't… well, you know the consequences~”
And with that ominous warning, Alisa skipped off towards the tops. Adam loitered in the entrance to the store for a moment before following, a heavy sigh escaping his lips. He did indeed know the consequences, and he really couldn't be bothered suffering through them today. Meandering into an aisle near enough to Alisa that he could summon her over with a call, and vice-versa, he began to lazily pick through a rack of clothes. Finding nothing in Alisa's size, he shifted onto another rack of clothing, once again shifting through them.
“No luck again,” Adam grumbled, the only black tank-top sized for someone much wider than his girlfriend. And as much as he'd enjoy presenting it to her as a joke, he enjoyed a) having a girlfriend and b) living. “Over there looks like somewhere that has clothes…”
Shuffling across the store, he flashed Alisa a thumbs-up and a smile, ignoring the pile of t-shirts, crop tops, and tank-tops draped over her arm. Once he was out of view, his expression dropped, exhaustion weighing on him.
I feel like I've just finished a football game, Adam groaned, gazing over a rack of mismatched clothing. Tops, pants, underwear… the discount section. His kind of place, though Alisa always looked at it with a critical eye. Don't wanna let her down. Might suggest some food after this, hopefully perk myself up.
Shifting through the discounted clothing, Adam recoiled when his hand brushed against something, a shock racing through his arm. Staring down at his arm in confusion, he reached back into the clothes, pulling out the culprit… indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
