A few weeks ago, he was a street urchin sure. Nearly starving and living off scraps he could steal from the Little Daisy Cafe's pantry, definitely. But at least then he had his self-respect. His dignity! His knowledge that he was in fact, a self sufficient urchin capable of living on his...well okay maybe not so much living on his own but surviving on...well no not surviving. More...freezing to death very slowly in a cold pantry that he couldn't get back out of. But at least he had his independence. His Freedom!... fat lot of good it would of done him if he froze...
But at least then he wasn't forced to wear a suitcoat and bowtie by some giant woman he barely knew who seemed obsessed with the idea that it was her responsibility to keep him around. Why Ms. Mitzy seemed so interested in his life's future prospects, something no one had ever taken interest in before, completely went over Augie's head, but he'd never been more suspicious of anyone ever in his life because of it. She kept acting like she cared! That was the real rub of it. Nobody cared about him, and no one should, he's just street trash and he had LONG ago accepted that.
Least he had his own room...even if he was fairly certain it was a re-purposed hatbox with some doll furniture in it and an electric light put in the roof. He straightened the noose-like bowtie while looking in the broken piece of glass that functioned as a full body mirror, not really sure what to do until...
The roof is suddenly opened rather quickly, and the one-eyed face of Viktor hangs in the air.
"Your Mother wishes to see you."
"Well unless the Savoy's have set up a seance again, thats a little difficu-" And then he remembered who he was talking to. Viktor was the scariest individual working for Mitzy and...frankly makes the mental note not to make Viktor in any way upset with him. Which...he is scowling down at him but it might be a resting murderously angry face...
"I-I mean...of c-course, w-we should get to her then. Mustn't keep Ms. Mitzy w-waiting."
