Chapter #5

Arrival of the Warren

"Walls?"

"W-walls, sir. The rabbit and what I can only describe as an army of humans, have begun building a perimeter wall roughly twice the height of our Mercenary leader." The soldier stands aside as Uther walks past him. "S-she appears to be fortifying the-"

"Wait, did the members of this town try to stop her? Like...at all?"

"No?"

"...Inform the troops that we ride their immediately"

And they did. Well. The majority of the army rode, Uther stood on Mao Mao's shoulder.

"So...why are you so concerned about this?" Mao Mao speaks up as he...actually walks rather slowly to not outpace the army. "I mean, its one town, it sucks that we lost it but its right on our borders and not particularly easy to defend so we were probably going to eventu-"

"Mao Mao can you think of one particularly compelling reason that a town would put up exactly 0 defense when they are being surrounded by small army and someone begins building a wall around them?"

"Common sense?"

"Fair enough, lets try the other way around. Can you think of one compelling reason that the Warren would send out a single Macro and a human army, whom we both know they do not take seriously, and rather than open negotiations or lay seige to a town in my territory, they would just start building a wall that seems more for defending the town than attacking it?"

"Well they probably already...negotiated..." Mao's voice gets a bit grimmer. "Ah."

"Yeah, they apparently aren't too confident in the defense I can provide them and have decided to risk it with the Warren"

Badgerclops speaks up at this point. "I mean, they could do worse. The Warren has a ban on slavery, and unlike the Western Den it includes humans. And they're real unlikely to use humans as an emergency food supply or something."

"This is not about whether they chose their New Allies well, Badgerclops, this is about the fact they're going to try and ditch their old ones."

"...Meaning you."

"Just shut up and get us there before they finish the walls." A reasonable concern. Between the massive army of human engineers (Smaller at least than Uther's, that's a small comfort) and the Macro herself, the Miles high wall is already half finished...

And there's the Macro now, a Black and white rabbit clad in dull yellow and black, poofy pants, a dull yellow vest, and barret...overseeing the construction from what appears to be an oversized, folding out chair... She has turned to view the two Macros (And to a much lesser degree the 10,000 strong human army) that was marching towards her more than once.

"...Beauregard" She turns to a human in a similar outfit to her, sitting on her shoulder.

"Yes, Warden?"

"Bandits?" She gestures to the encroaching army casually. Without the slightest hint of concern. "And if so, how much do you think it will take to pay them off?"

"No, Warden. The banners that their flying is that of Uther, a nice young man from all accounts I've heard, but he fancies himself a king."

"Judging from the army I'm guessing he's not the only one who fancies him to be o-...Beauregard? Did this town have any alliances that you know of before we arrived."

"If they did they didn't inform me, Warden"

"...I believe that we may have accidentally helped this city to double cross this Uther. Have the men get behind the standing defenses, I will try to end this without conflict but the forces he has with him seem more than capable of causing some damage if he's here for retribution"

"Yes, Warden!" Beauregard stands up and, seemingly with the air of someone who had done this before, slides down Velvet's sleeve, landing on the chair's armrest and climbing down a ladder before directing the humans to get behind the walls...

You have the following choices:

1. Uther is of course hear to talk

*Noteb*
2. Uther Attacks

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
