Telling My Friends

    by: BeeJay Author IconMail Icon
The day after the Woolseys came, my besties dropped by. "What were those strange people doing here?" Elisabeth asked.

"They came to see me," I replied, chewing on my beef jerky. "I found out why my body's been changing."

"Don't leave us in suspense, girlfriend," Sarah begged, "what is it?"

"I'm a werewolf."

"A werewolf?" Elisabeth asked. "Don't kid us; there's no such thing."

"It's the only answer that fits everything: My healing; my heightened senses; my craving for meat; my weight loss; why Clawdette avoids me now; even my dreams."

"What do your dreams have to do with being a werewolf?"

"Apparently, my subconscious is trying to figure out what's happening with me. They taught me some tricks that should help with my nightmares. For instance, remember the last time I dreamed about killing you?"

"Vividly," Elisabeth replied. It clearly wasn't a memory she wanted to revisit in detail.

"Well, they taught me how to rehearse a new ending. You climb into a hot air balloon, and you take off, and we wave to each other."

"Why am I waving to you? You're out to kill me."

"Don't pick holes; it's all I've got. Anyway, the dreams will go away after I change for the first time."

"You're really serious about this, aren't you?"

"I am; I have to be. I'll be going out of town in a couple weeks; I'll be going where I can be sure I won't hurt anyone when I wolf out." I turned to Sarah. "Apparently, my being a werewolf is why you kissed me that time."

"It is? How does that work?"

"Animal magnetism. Once you understand it, you should be able to resist it better."

"If it's working like that on me, I guess it'd work that way on guys, too."

"You know what that means," Elisabeth said: "You've got a chance with Collin Channing."

"I'd hate to think it would be that that brings us together. I'd rather he wanted me for me."

"Hey, take what you can get, I say. Loan me your phone before you go; I want to put a playlist on there, so you have something to listen to before you change."
