This choice: The Strangeness Continues • Go Back...Chapter #5The Strangeness Continues by: BeeJay The next morning, after another running dream, I woke up to something strange. Remember when I said that my pits and legs looked European before I shaved them yesterday? Well, when I woke up, they were just as hairy as if I hadn't shaved them at all. "Since when does hair grow that fast?" I wondered.
So I shaved again; then, I trimmed my nails, since they were looking long.
When I got to the mirror, another shock hit me: My eyebrows had grown together. My thoughts went to the strange people I'd seen at the hospital, since they had unibrows, too. That's ridiculous, I told myself; what connection could they possibly have to this?
As I got dressed, I could smell Mom frying bacon. My mouth watered, and my stomach rumbled. I dressed as quickly as I could, so I could get downstairs.
"Good morning, Tasha," Mom said when I came down. Then, she took a look at me. "What's up with your eyebrows?"
"I dunno," I replied, loading my plate with food, including plenty of yummy bacon. "I woke up with them like this."
"Maybe I can get you in at the salon." She looked at my plate. "I thought you were thinking about going vegetarian."
"I guess I changed my mind," I said, putting two strips of bacon into my mouth.

Well, they managed to squeeze me in at the salon. I sat in the chair, and they waxed above my nose, so I would have two eyebrows again.
While they worked, I looked at my legs with dismay. Even though I had shaved just this morning, they were already bristly.
They noticed it, too. "Would you like us to do your legs, too?"

Elisabeth and Sarah took me shopping to cheer me up. That was certainly a way to do it, as I had gone down a couple sizes. Then we went to a bodega, where I got a jar of beef jerky. "That much?" Elisabeth asked.
I shrugged. "I couldn't resist it. Hey, with the weight I've lost, I think I deserve it."
"I say go for it," Sarah said.
Elisabeth turned to Sarah. "Have you figured out why you suddenly decided to mack on Tasha?"
"Not really. I may as well admit it: I'm a lesbian. But, for some reason, I couldn't resist Tasha."
******************************
That night, I had a different dream: Instead of running, I was hunting.
I stalked this magnificent buck, drawing closer with each moment. When it felt right, I pounced, bringing it down. Then, I pulled out a knife and slashed its throat. Then, I ate it, right there.
When I woke up, I could almost still taste the blood.
Then, I found that my legs were hairy again, and my unibrow had returned. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
