Chantess may have said something else as Melona ran off, but she couldn't hear it. She didn't really care what it could have been anyway. Nothing could change the fact that she had found a chance, tried her best, and still failed like she always did. She kept running, not stopping until the door of her dorm room was shut behind her, whereupon her legs finally gave out underneath her and she burst into tears.
Why hadn't it worked? What did she do wrong? Why did she always fail when it mattered the most? Thoughts and self-depreciations swirled in her mind as she continued to sob, until she was too tired to cry any more. She held up her wand, frowning, and pointed it at her stomach, imagining food once again. And this time, it had worked! She felt the mana flow through her wand and the subsequent feeling of fullness. So it did work! But only on her, it seemed.
"Of course..." Melona sighed. The one time she actually accomplishes something, and it's still utterly worthless. How fitting. Soon enough, exhaustion took hold, and she found herself drifting back to sleep...
