Suddenly, right as Melona was ready to give up, the sparkles surrounding Melona floated in front of her, gradually collecting into a small mass in front of her. The mass slowly took shape, disparate particles melding together into a solid ball-like form. The ball shimmered one last time, and then the light faded, the object falling down as gravity began to take effect on it. Melona sat up quickly, catching the item in her hands, and looked down at what she had created. Nestled in the palms of her hands was a simple roll of bread, speckled with the texture of whole grain and slightly darker than her hair.
She stared, eyes wide. She'd done it! Somehow she had actually managed to cast a spell! Her hands trembled and her eyes began to feel misty, tears of joy welling up. It was almost comical to have such an emotional reaction to something so simple, but she had lived for years convinced that she would never be able to do such a simple task. And yet here it was, solid proof that she could do it! "Yes!!!" She cheered, uncaring if the noise bothered her neighbors. She could cast a spell! She was a real witch!
But then, mid celebration, she paused, looking at the roll. She had managed to cast the spell, which in and of itself was an incredible feat for her, but had she done it correctly? She would need to use her tools to check if she'd output the correct amount of mana to pass the assignment, but she feared doing anything to the roll, as if destroying it would remove the ability to ever cast a spell again. Obviously that probably wouldn't happen, but she couldn't help but fear that everything could be taken away for the most arbitrary of reasons. She could also just try a nibble of the roll, and she should be able to feel if there was mana in the bite she had. Or she could try casting the spell again. After all, if she turned in this roll for the assignment, she'd never get it back!
