"Melona..." Chantess said, eyes widened by just a fraction, "You're early. Did you need me for something?"
Melona blinked in surprise. She was early? Huh. That never happens. Her professor seemed to recognize her surprise, so she clarified.
"Class was delayed today, did you not get the scroll? A delivery for some materials is running late."
Ah, that explained it. Melona sighed, rubbing the back of her neck.
"No, I guess it got lost..." She shrugged. In actuality students were probably throwing rocks at her messenger bird, a common prank played on her, and one she couldn't help but find a little impressive given how all of the messenger birds look the same. She didn't want to bother her professor with this, though, she was already enough of a failure in her eyes.
"Ah, I should have known..." Chantess said, not surprised in the least, "Well, I'll see you again in an hour. Try not to be late this time."
Melona opened her mouth to say "okay," but stopped. She had never sought out help from her professors before, too embarrassed to approach, but perhaps this was her chance. Chantess was certainly strict, but Melona couldn't imagine her turning away a student in need. Only, what would she ask...?
"Uh, Professor," Melona stuttered out, "A-actually, I was wondering..."
