As you open your eyes, you see nothing … the whole place is pitch black. Thinking about it, you can’t even hear anything, nor feel the floor or the temperature of the area.
Perhaps this is what being dead feels like. Pretty boring if you want my opinion …
Just to be sure, you try to yell something.
“Hello!”
You can hear the echo of your voice resonating in the infinite abyss of this place when suddenly you some mysterious pale light evinces an old desk with a lot of documents on it.
As you approach the furniture, you can see a document with a lot of name and destinations. Yours is on it but the destination is put to “unknown”.
“You know … looking into confidential documentation … is a deep violation of the low … don't you?” said a calm feminine voice filled with a cold anger.
You turn your head an notice a woman is behind you. She’s a tall pale figure with a long hair as black as coal, eyes as blue as ice and lips as red as blood. She is wearing in an elegant dress but with no shade of grey. By looking closely, you can see the spiral motives are forming hands and skulls. She clearly has a taste for gothic fashion.
She reaches the desk while keeping a sharp eye on you then sit at the desk and starts looking at the some papers.
“So … you are Anon … quite an unusual name …
You died … crushed by a truck … the 6th one this month … they really should invest in security with those things …
You lived as … Wow … You really wanted a partner … that I can tell … It didn’t worked well though … what a shame …”
You can hear a little laugh from her at this last sentence and she’s looking at you with a mocking smile.
“It looks like we have a little trouble maker … here …
The poor little Charlotte … You really went rash with that last one … Not really nice of you If I may say!”
This is not a story you want to recall. And looking at her sadistic smile, you can tell she said it on purpose to provoke you. Then she looks back in her documents.
“Anyway … According to your record … you have the right to choose between 5 worlds for your next life … I have the perfect families for you … and a little surprise coming with it ...”
Another giggle can be heard from her before she leaves her desk, gives you a paper sheet, and slowly disappears in the dark abyss. You have a list of 5 families. Here is what it says:
Royal family: You will be born in a wealthy family at the top of the pyramid. Also, the queen is know as a true beauty and you might be born as one of her children. Just sad you shall be an illegitimate one. Magician family: You will be born in a family of powerful magicians. Your parents have a lot of magical power and beauty. You might inherit it from them. At least, they will wait a lot from you. Mystic family: You will be born in an hybrid family. If you wish to see a lot of other races, a cute pregnant woman is waiting for you there. Let’s just hope you can survive more than 10 years there. Adventurer family: you will be born from a beautiful adventurer woman who wishes to give her training to her descendance. She loves adventure more than anything. Actually, your dad was just one among all the others. Witch family: you will be born with a lot of magical powers, also you will have a great affinity with other living creatures. But you might also be rejected by a lot of peoples.
By the way, it’s been a while I didn’t get some fun with my friends in one of the living worlds. A brat like you was all we needed. Let’s just hope for you that you won’t cross our path, but that might also be sad for me if that doesn't happen.
You don’t know what to think about the last sentence. But you’d better be ready for your next life. At least, your mom will be cute.
