The war to defeat the Demon King had taken a toll on Ephraim, Lyon's death still lingered on his mind, his friend was gone and Grado was left in ruins after the earthquake Lyon feared so much finally came, Ephraim and Eirika did what they could to rebuild the country but they also had to rebuild their own, Renais, which meant they couldn't afford to help has much as they wanted.
The burden of the crown was weighing on Ephraim, most of Magvel needed him and he tried his best to help them all, trying to reinforce his lacking qualities with Seth's counsel and with Eirika always by his side, with their help Ephraim believed he could bring prosperity to the war-ravaged continent.
But there was another person that made him think he could win this fight, he and L'Arachel had become friends during the war, and he couldn't deny he had started to worry about her, taking extra risks to make sure she wouldn't get hurt during battle and taking more than a few scratches and scars for those reckless actions but he was used to taking risks, some extra ones wouldn't hurt, and it had payed off, he and L'Arachel had both survived the war, the woman came often to Renais to help with the rebuilding process, he was glad for that, it was important to be in good terms with Rausten, but mostly he was glad to spend time with her.
And spend time they did, Ephraim could finally take a break from ruling, or at least something he considered a break, some villagers had reported a couple of monster attacks on the recent weeks and how these beast took refuge in a nearby forest, so he had decided to solve the problem by himself, a little battle was exactly what he needed after months of handling administrative duties, and L'Arachel was glad to accompany him.
They didn't had a hard time finding the monsters, and they had an easier time defeating them, barely getting a scratch on him, Ephraim was glad ruling hadn't rusted his fighting abilities, but when he looked at one of the monsters he had slayed he noticed one was caring an odd artifact, a black necklace encrusted with emeralds that he couldn't stop looking at, curious about the necklace he decided to pick it up.
As he was examining it L'Arachel came to cheek he was unhurt, her gaze also shifting to the strange looking necklace on his hands, as soon as she got close to him it started shining, a dark green light emerged from it, blinding them and making them fell unconscious.
---
"Ephraim!" a voice screamed at him, he could feel someone shacking him, was Eirika trying to wake him up? Did he overslept again?
As soon as Ephraim opened his eyes he wished he hadn't, instead of his twin sister he found a mirror image of himself. "W-what" he stuttered, too shocked by what he was seeing.
"Oh thank goodness! I thought you were dead!" his apparent new twin said as he embraced him, practically asphyxiating him in the process, as he Ephraim fought to free himself he noticed something wasn't right with him, he could see green hair falling on his eyes, the embrace also made him feel odd, he could sense there was something very sensitive was brushing against the stranger, making him feel really odd, the sensation was making him uncomfortable, really uncomfortable, he used all of his strength to free himself, he could feel the grip got loose giving him a chance to scape.
"Get off me!" he shouted as he pushed his double away, falling to ground in the process.
As he lay on the ground Ephraim was able to see exactly what was wrong with him, he was wearing a white dress with golden Rausten designs, a small filmy green cape that left soft shoulders exposed, elbow-height gloves and knee-height boots, both as white as the dress, all the attire perfectly fit a very female looking body.
He stared at the body of who he knew was L'Arachel for a long time, long enough to annoy the real L'Arachel, currently occupying his own body.
"Pervert! Don't you dare take advantage of this situation!" she angrily berated him, crossing her new arms to emphasize her anger.
Ephraim scratched his new head, looking at L'Arachel with a confused expression, he shouldn't have picked that amulet, he definitely couldn't win this fight.
