This choice: Exploring in the backyard  •  Go Back...
Chapter #3

Geronimo

    by: TinyEthan13 Author IconMail Icon
I think the backyard would be a cool place to explore at my size. The hard part would be getting out there. It would be time consuming to climb down the stairs. Also once I made my way to the back door there was no guarantee that I could get out. Across the hall in the game room I see that the window is open. In the breeze I see the parachute from one of those cheap toys they give out at dentist offices, blowing around. Now that would be a much more fun way to get down.

At my size I have to walk much longer than I would normally. What I used to be able to do in two strides now takes over one hundred. The game room is a complete mess, no doubt my brother's doing. An empty can of soda and bag of chips sit discarded next to the couch. Dallas's massive sneakers also lay on their side in front of me. Crumbs are scattered across the floor. There is also a pile of dirty clothes. Rather than put pajamas on Dallas normally just plays video games in his boxers.

Finally I make it to the wall. The window is far above me. Luckily there are plenty of things for me to climb. One of the speakers from the entertainment system provides me the perfect handholds. From here I walk up the crooked stack of video games which form a set of stairs. At the top of the pile, I am just able to reach the cord of the blinds.

Once on the windowsill I look down at the yard below. It is a really long ways down. Part of me is worried about jumping. What if the parachute didn't work and I plummeted all the way down? However a bigger part of me wants to be adventurous and live in the moment. The parachute has a plastic basket attached to it which is just the right size for me. I drag it to the edge before hoping it. By rocking back and forth I make it slide off the windowsill. For a moment I have a feeling of weightlessness, but then the air catches the chute at my decent slows.

A light breeze blows me and I begin to drift...

You have the following choices:

1. Towards the pool

2. Towards the grass

3. Over the fence to Maddie's and Megan's yard
