Chapter #4

The dark, unknown underground

Though the upstairs seemed safer, you found yourself drawn to the commotion happening downstairs. After a few moments to muster up your courage, you take flight from your perch, whizzing past the heads of several unsuspecting patrons before plunging into the darkness of the cellar staircase. After a few moments where you felt completely swallowed by the inky blackness, you are able to make out a faint, greenish light glowing distantly further down the stone stairs.

"Okay, I can do this," You mutter to yourself. "Let's just hope I don't hit anything on the way down."

After several minutes of cautious flying, you finally arrive in the cellar. As your eyes adjust to the darkness, you are amazed by the sheer size of the cave-like room before you. The hard, grey stone above you seems mostly natural, save for a few wooden support beams scattered throughout the room. Wooden barrels and boxes are haphazardly strewn around the dirt floor, presumably full of ale and food and other inn essentials. A small trickle of water pouring out of a crack in the rock has even created something of a small stream dividing the room.

Most interestingly, however, is a stone archway, adorned in archaic runes, at the far end of the cellar. Past the seemingly ancient arch lie stairs that appeared to go even deeper underground. Shrouded in darkness, you have no way of knowing what it is that lies below.

Your pondering is interrupted by a loud, metallic crash to your right, snapping you out of your awe. You look over to find the source of the glowing green light, a small kitchen illuminated by magic. Within it, you spy an embarrassed looking Kenku, scooping ruined pastries off the cobblestone floor onto the tray he presumably had just dropped. A balding, red haired chef stands over him angrily.

Where do you want to go next?
