A chimera

According to legend, the hero Bellerophon, with the aid of Pegasus, was able to defeat a chimera.

You agreed to fight the chimera because its wings were clipped, not allowing it to fly. In addition, it was wearing an ensorcelled collar around its neck, which prevented it from using its flaming breath. These limitations were placed on the chimera to insure the safety of the Emperor and the more aristocratic enthusiasts of the gladiatorial games. You didn’t care who the limitations were for, as long as you could take advantage of them. You felt assured of your victory over the chimera.

You were wrong.

The combination of being held in captivity and then magically hobbled had infuriated the chimera, and you became the sole target of its rage. A lesser gladiator would have instantly fell at the chimera’s initial onslaught. As it was, you fought valiantly for ten minutes, until the chimera snaked its tail around your ankle, causing you to fall.

Death came quickly after that.
