Chapter #3

Investigate more

Mark decided to hang out and explore a little more before it got too dark. He made his way down the beach hoping he could maybe find the home or workplace of whoever had constructed the model village. He lit another cigarette as he felt the air get a little cooler. His t-shirt and cargo shorts felt good in the sun, but now they allowed the evening air to put a few goosebumps on his skin.

Down the beach a way he saw a small wooden dock, and could see what appeared to be a small toy boat slowly making its way across the river to the dock. He looked around hoping to see someone operating the model boat, but saw no one. He made his way to the dock towering over it just as the boat arrived.

Mark looked down at the boat and too his surprise saw a man, around only an inch tall, looking up at him with the same look of shock.

“That’s the most realistic model I’ve ever seen,” Mark said, placing his cigarette between his lips and squatting down. He reached for the tiny toy person, only for the little man to jump out of the boat and run down the dock.

“He even moves like a real person!”

The tiny man’s speed was no match for Mark’s size, and he easily wrapped his hand around him. He lifted his hand to his face and opened it.

“Holy shit… are… are you a real person?”

“How’d you get so big?” The tiny man asked, clearly distraught.

“I… I don’t think I did,” Mark replied, his cigarette bobbing up and down in his mouth. “Tell me, where are we?”

“On the beach of the lake outside of Lilliput City. What do you mean you didn’t get big? You’re huge!”

“I’ve never heard of Lilliput City… I was out fishing and fell asleep. My boat came to rest on this beach. So the houses… the road… they’re all real?”

“What do you mean? I was out fishing and came back to see you, a giant, catching me!”

Mark took a drag off of his cigarette and exhaled upward, flicking the spent butt into the lake.

“Okay… so I don’t think I‘ve become a giant… I just think the people oh this island are way smaller than people where I’m from. Everything is. That explains the tiny trees…”

“So you’re not Lilliputian,” the tiny man asked, confused.

“Not that I know of,” Mark laughed.

“This is crazy,” the tiny man replied.

“What’s your name, little guy? I’m Mark.”

“Uh, Mike. Nice to meet you I guess,” the little man replied.
