Desperation filled your tiny lungs as you frantically waved the paperclip, your voice hoarse from yelling, "Starlight! Help! Down here!" Your cries were barely whispers in the vast expanse of the room, but you had to try.
Starlight’s eyes scanned the room, her gaze momentarily flicking in your direction. Hope surged within you, but it was abruptly dashed as Victoria Neuman's voice cut through the air. "I think I saw a bug," she exclaimed, her tone laced with faux concern.
Before you could react, Neuman's foot lifted and came crashing down towards you. You dove to the side, narrowly avoiding her shoe as it slammed into the floor. The force of the impact sent you tumbling, the paperclip clattering away from your grasp. Gasping for breath, you struggled to stand, but Neuman’s shoe nudged you with surprising accuracy, knocking the wind from your tiny body. You lay there, stunned and helpless, as her shoe hovered above you.
Neuman pressed her shoe down, the rough tread pressing painfully into your skin. She twisted her foot, grinding you into the linoleum. Pain shot through your body, and you could hear her mocking voice above, continuing her conversation with Starlight as if nothing were amiss.
When Neuman finally stepped off, you lay there, battered but miraculously still alive. Your reprieve was short-lived, as Starlight stepped forward, her white and gold sneaker descending. You had no time to react. Her shoe came down on you, your tiny form pressed into the floor under the immense weight. Darkness enveloped you, the smell of rubber and faint perfume overpowering your senses.
Starlight shifted her weight, and you felt the crushing pressure release momentarily as she stepped off. Victoria’s voice, feigning surprise, rang out. "Oh look, there’s the bug again! Starlight, can you kill it? I hate bugs."
Starlight's eyes found your tiny form, her expression shifting to one of mild disgust and duty. She bent down, her fingers gently pinching you between them. You dangled helplessly, the world spinning as she lifted you to eye level. Her face, usually kind and warm, was now focused and detached, unaware of your identity.
With a grimace, Starlight's fingers tightened around you. Pain shot through your tiny body as she increased the pressure. You tried to scream, but no sound came out. She was completely unaware of the horror she was inflicting. With one final squeeze, her fingers crushed you, the bones in your minuscule body snapping with a sickening crack.
As she dropped what she thought was a lifeless bug, Starlight turned to Neuman. "There, it's done."
Victoria Neuman's smile was cold and satisfied. "Thank you, Starlight. I can't stand pests."
Starlight nodded, oblivious to the true nature of the "bug" she had just dispatched. The two women continued their conversation, unaware of the tiny tragedy that had unfolded between them, the remnants of your crushed form lying forgotten on the cold linoleum floor.
