Lucy heard her crying and was ecstatic that her plan was working, she would be an adult high school graduate and Sarah would still be in school. This wasn't good enough for Lucy though, someone might still mistake them as being the same. So she had to put the next part of her plan into action.
While her parents were making dinner in the kitchen Lucy volunteered to set the table. Her parents were happy that she was taking so much initiative to be helpful and had no clue if her ulterior motives. When Lucy set the table for Sarah she made sure to use a plastic cup that she had sanded down to be uneven as well as a subtly bent fork. When it came time for dinner Lucy had already begun eating by the time Sarah had come down, it was obvious that she has been crying so her parents asked why. Lucy feigned surprise as Sarah told them that she was failing all of her classes. Her parents were disappointed but understanding, they believed that she had tried her hardest. While the rest of them has begun to eat their spaghetti dinner Sarah was making a mess of herself, flinging pasta sauce and noodles around her plate and on her clothes and face. She continued eating unabashedly until she stopped to take a drink of juice, when she set down the altered plastic cup it tipped over and spilled all over Sarah. Her parents stopped eating in surprise as they saw it happen. Sarah herself was shocked and her eyes began to tear up.
"W-what's wrong with me?" Sarah asked as her tears turned into sobbing
While her parents were comforting her and cleaning up the mess she had made, Lucy snuck up stairs to continue her plan.
Sarah had always slept with her bed against the wall because she had a habit of rolling out of bed. Lucy's plan was to take the small feet of the other side of her bed and put them under the feet on the side of the wall. The result was that, while visually indistinguishable, Sarah would now roll away from the wall and out of bed.
Lucy returned downstairs to her mom still cleaning up after her sister. As she wiped the spaghetti off of her face she asked Lucy to put the table cloth in the wash. Lucy happily compiled with the request, which made her feel extra mature.
"Aww are you okay Sawah?" Lucy asked teasingly
"mmhm" Sarah nodded, not picking up in her sarcasm
"Lucy be nice to your sister, you know she's having a hard day." Ava disciplined.
"What? I'm just making sure my little sister is okay." Lucy said feigning ignorance.
"Thankies Lucy" Sarah said softly.
Their mom gave Lucy a disapproving look, but dropped it for Sarah's sake.
"Sarah I'll call the school tomorrow morning and see if anything can be done about your grades."
"Thank you mommy."
"Lucy, why don't you help your sister get ready for bed?"
"Sure mom, come on Sarah."
Lucy took Sarah's hand and led her upstairs to their room.
"How bout you hop in the shower and get that sticky soda off you?"
"Okay"
While Sarah was in the shower Lucy set out Sarah's pj's for her. While she was going through her closet she found Sarah's old goodnites. She thought about putting them out for her to see how Sarah would react.
