Darren was a rather odd specimen on the Wolfe's Farm. Unbeknownst to the Wolfe's, he had been born with a most unusual trait. So unusual, in fact, that it was pretty much unheard of. You see, Darren was completely immune to his owners attempts to domesticate and tame him, no matter how subtlety they may try.
Maybe it was something in his DNA, maybe it was some sort of mental condition. Whatever the case, Whenever the Wolfes would ask him to do something he didn't want to do, he simply politely refused.
He knew of their family's mental manipulation techniques, and that they had no effect on him. But for some reason known only to himself, he chose to not use this against them. He could have escaped ages ago if he wanted, but stayed on the farm.
He was still two years away from coming of age, and spent most of his time alone, strolling around the pasture and such. It perplexed Robert how this single human was able to resist his family's methods that had always worked before.
He figured it was just a fluke, and sooner or later Darren would be nice and compliant, just like the rest of the herd.
Meanwhile, Darren was partaking in his usual routine of strolling about the pasture by himself. He had always been a solitary boy, preferring to avoid social contact. He had no real friends or emotional connections to speak of, and that was how he liked it.
Not only was he immune to mind manipulation, he was also quite intelligent for his age. The Wolfes thought him to be no smarter than the rest of the herd, but they were dead wrong.
At this very moment, Darren was thinking to himself...
