Izuku let himself be alone with his thoughts for his whole walk home, taking his time, not really thinking about much else other than Midnight.
However, when he finally returned home, he slowed down at the sight of several police cars blocking the way. He looked above, and saw that there was smoke coming from somewhere behind the police barrier.
A sense of dread filled him as he rushed to the front of the barricades. He stretched his neck farther to see.
The smoke was coming from the direction of his house.
Fear taking over, Izuku jumped the barrier even as police tried to block his way home. All he knew was the adrenaline pumping through him. Eventually, he made it to his house, and his heart broke.
He heard it in an official capacity from the police. A villain had ran into the suburbs in order to get away from heroes, but when they pursued he shifted from fleeing to fighting. At some point, he had thrown a car into a building to distract the heroes, and they had been ill equipped with stopping the car from crashing into the building.
That building was Izuku’s apartment. And his mother had been inside.
Izuku had completely shut down upon seeing his home be destroyed. His mother gone without any warning.
He was only briefly aware as a social worker came by and explained he would be entered into the foster system, and sent to someone trustworthy to care for him.
While he waited for his new guardian to arrive, everything hit him all at once, and suddenly he was asleep.
His dream was a mirror to the last good thoughts he had had before his life had been destroyed. Instead of being himself, he was Midnight. And as Midnight, Izuku stopped the villain from ever getting close to the Midoriya household, saving his mother while everyone cheered the confident and beautiful Midnight on.
Izuku did not want the dream to end. But it did.
“Izuku? Izuku, please get up.”
Sadly, knowing his dream was just that, he opened his eyes at the voice that sounded kind of familiar. Once his eyes were fully open, he looked up, and his mouth fell in shock.
Gently holding his shoulder, a beautiful woman with dark hair smiled down at him.
“Hello Izuku. I know this is a lot to process, but I am Nemuri Kayama. For now at least, I have been chosen to be your legal guardian.”
Right before Izuku’s eyes, was one of his favorite heroes. He had no words.
And he had no idea just how deep his connection with her would become.
