Chapter #5

The Mercenary Network

    by: Hole Author IconMail Icon
With many new species achieving space travel and meeting the other spacefaring nations, the need for defense forces often outpaces the ability to build them. That's were mercenaries come in. Some of these include:

Dark Valkyrie: A private army owned by Dark Valkyrie LLC. A human run mercenary group that specializes in ground combat and serves numerous entities as long as they have the money to pay. They've even taken up arms against fellow humans in the Zehm-Human war, and for that they're hated by other humans, even when the UNH still hires them.

The Divine Battalion: A cultist army made up of species from many parts of the galaxy. The only thing that unites them is their faith and beliefs. Also their need of funds. So, using donations from their already impoverished cult members, they bought weapons and incorporated weaponry into their religious rituals and mythology, especially the RA-99 laser rifle, and turned themselves into an effective army for hire.

The Free Legion: A state-sponsored mercenary formed by the Modular People's Confederacy. Initially, it was meant as a volunteer army to fight against the Zehm, but has since been used as a service for other nations to hire in order to get modular soldiers to fight their conflicts in return for substantial payment to the Confederacy, both in money and other diplomatic concessions.

Void Shield: An independent fleet of warships that is hired by any nation that is lacking in defense fleets but not money or any other resources that Void Shield can use, such as scrap metal or fuel. Its made up of mostly Illursian sailors who have chosen to not to take up the risks of piracy and instead chose a less profitable but more steady income stream that comes with mercenary work. They mostly do anti-piracy work but occasionally clash with other navies.
