Well, Tails was easy to find. As usual he was in his more than a little private area in the Library, the shorter fox was sitting at a desk reading some book on Aerodynamics. He did seem to notice your approach.
"O-oh! Hey MC! Where have you been?" Tails sounds...awkward but friendly, like one might when someone they know but don't know well suddenly showed up and interrupted your reading.
"What do you mean where have I been?" You question as you take hold of the Ray in your pocket. You don't plan on shrinking him or anything but it seems best to have evidence of your breakthrough on hand.
"...No one's seen you out of class for like, 3 weeks"
"...That long?" Note to self, put clock in workshop "huh. Well. I made a...breakthrough in a pet project of mine, was wondering if you'd like to see it, maybe give some feedback?"
"O-oh! Sure!" Tails seems...surprised he was amongst your first choices for this. "What uh, what is it?"
You pull the ray out, its simple TV-Remote like overlay betraying its true grandiose. "Molecular re-sizing"
"Like a shrink ray? Doesn't the Square cube law make tha-"
"No no, nothing so basic as just a shrinkray. A resizing ray! Or Size Ray if you prefer, it can shrink or grow things while circumventing the normal issues!"
"...Are you sure its not just a TV remote and your messing with me?"
"I swear its real. Watch I'll prove it!" And with that you turn the ray...
