It should have been simple. Just a low-level quest, go into the oddly named Caves of Little Consequence and smack whatever happened to be inside around a bit. The inhabitants weren't even that tough, as far as you knew, just goblins for the most part. And even if the going got tough, you had a team of fellow adventurers to back you up. How could this have gone so wrong?
Well, it all started when you split up from your team. You had seen a glint in the distance, the kind of sparkle that only a jewel could produce, wedged in a dark crevice. Your teammates didn't seem to notice it, so why should you tell them? They didn't seem to notice you slink off towards it either. Again, why should you tell them? You'll be back before they know it, and with a neat little trinket for yourself to boot!
Their voices faded into darkness as quickly as their lantern's light as you scurried off, hoping for an extra bit of treasure for yourself. Of course, this glint turned out to be a cursed dagger. How else would you explain the arm-wrenchingly heavy weight of such a small object? The overwhelmingly black aura that circled the corners of your vision as soon as your fingers closed around the jeweled hilt of the blade? Not to mention the fact that this tiny dagger now looms high over you?
