Keegan's sandals smacked against his soles as he entered the dungeon. He didn't think about buying better shoes before his trip, but it was too late to turn back now. He hoped that what he had on him was enough as he delved into the cavern, hoping to stay down here for a few days before returning to the surface rich, finally able to afford a home of his own. Still, that was overly optimistic given the circumstances, but at this point, he didn't have much to lose.
Each step seemed to echo slightly throughout the dungeon. His dark cloak and matching pants could only do him so much good if each step he took make this much noise, but Keegan wasn't going to let that stop him as he ventured down the long corridor. After all, what would become of him if he turned back now? He was a laughing stock in his village; an effeminate man who was frequently unable to do what most other men could, and without more than a few silver pieces to his name. He had to make something of himself, even if it killed him.
Eventually, Keegan grew too tired to continue onward as he was. He leaned up against a wall, only for it to move a bit, startling him as he shot away from it. The stone gave way, and a secret passage was revealed. Too curious to ignore it, he made his was inside.
After some more walking, the young man found himself in front of a small room with a single pedestal inside. On it rested a pair of rings, each crafted out of gold and carved with intricate runes.
Keegan was careful as he walked up to the pedestal, and was gentle as he took the rings. He couldn't help but wonder if they'd fit him. Of course, he normally wasn't one for jewelry, but there was something about these that was overpowering his instincts.
He tried each of his fingers, finding that they were all just a little too large for them. Each one was more and more of a disappointment, and he couldn't help but feel cheated once he tried every digit on his hand... At least until he looked down towards his feet.
The young man quickly went to removing his sandals. He put one ring on his second toe of his left foot, and the other on the same toe on his right. A small flash of light shone from the rings after both of them were on, and Keegan couldn't have been more satisfied, or in need of rest.
Figuring that this was as good of a place as any to drift off in, he leaned back and shut his eyes, not quite prepared for what awaited him in the morning.
