Chapter #2

Saturday afternoon boredom

    by: Anon Author IconMail Icon
It was just another usual afternoon for the Smith family; Jerry was gone to look for a better job, Rick was god knows where with Morty, summer was on the couch in the living room on her phone and Beth was next to her, trying to resist the urge to grab a glass of wine this early in the day.

"Hey Mom, do you think you could go mope around somewhere else? You're kind of harshing the vibe over here." Summer said without looking away from her phone. Beth looked at her daughter and rolled her eyes.

"Oh I'm so sorry, Summer, I'll just go mope somewhere else." Beth said sarcastically, trying not to put too much care into her daughter's attitude.

"Thanks Mom." Summer said, still not caring. Beth got up from the couch and walked towards the kitchen, giving into the urge for her wine.

"Well, this is why I drink." She said to herself as opened a bottle and grabbed a glass from the cupboards. "My daughter is miserable, my husband is a moron, and my Dad takes my son away from me all the damn time!" The glass filled higher and higher as she ranted to herself before a familiar voice interrupted her.

"Watch it *URRRPP* Beth, that's a mighty pour for noon." Rick said as he walked in with a beer in hand and opened the fridge, searching for food.

"Where the hell have you been? Wait, where's Morty!?"

"Don't worry about it, he's fine. He's helping me out with a little project, normal Saturday stuff." He said without looking Beth in the eyes. "What's got you so edgy, huh? Thinking about *Uurrp* Jerry's failures again? I've got a laser that could get rid of him once and for all, just say the word and he'll be turned into a slime mon-"

"Oh my god Dad shut up, you know I wouldn't do that to Jerry."

"Yet. You wouldn't do that, yet. You'll change your mind, one day."

"It's not just Jerry, it's everyone! All day I just slave away and help everyone out and there's never any time for me! Most of the time it's just Summer and I, and she won't even look at me when she's on that damn phone!" Beth chewed her teeth while looking over at her daughter on the couch, giggling at her texts.

"Sounds like you guys need to go camping or do some bonding exercise or something dumb like that." Rick joked as he took a bite from a sandwich he found in the fridge. "Or maybe a lame seminar, with some cheesy dbag who runs around on stage, lying to everyone. I bet that would work." Beth was tired of her father's dumb jokes, but it did give her an idea.

"A mother daughter trip would be nice, get her to enjoy her 20s a bit more… Maybe we should go on a trip together! Just the two of us!" She looked at Rick, figuring out a plan. "I've got an idea, but I need your hel-"

"No thank you, I'm busy." Rick said as he walked towards the garage.

"Oh no you don't! You don't get to be an asshole to me and just walk away, you're going to do something productive and help me out!" Rick sighed at his daughter's persistence before rolling his eyes.

"Fine, but it better not take too long, not sure how long Morty can last by himself-"

"I'm sure he'll be fine, let's go." Beth said as Rick led her to the garage. Once inside the garage Rick opened a secret door and a bunch of high tech gadgets appeared, each one looking scarier than the last. Beth looked them all up as Rick rummaged through a bin of metal parts and began assembling something new for his daughter. After only a few minutes Rick pulled out a device and showed it to Beth.

"Okay, here we go. I think it should do the job." He said as he held it out towards Beth. "I call it…"
