Okay, like I said with MJ, maybe Gwen attempted to become a Spider woman, only for it to go terribly wrong.

If not that... well in at least two adaptions Gwen is connected to Curt Connors, plus in the Spider Gwen reality, Peter is the one who becomes Lizard, maybe here Gwen becomes a Lizard.
