In the years after the case, Cassandra Cain would look back on that night many times, she couldn't do much more than sit and think now could she? Every time she did, the thing that she always comes back to is that the lack of guards should have put her guard up.
She had been tracking a new group of human traffickers, who had been kidnapping young women from throughut Gotham, none of the Bat Family knew much about the outfit, other than the name; Pillow Girls, which they couldn't discern the meaning, Bruce, Tim and Barbra figure it's just a fancy way of saying Sex Slave while Dick and Steph suggested that they fatten up the girls into plush, plump 'pillowy' Sex Slaves. Cass was unsure and Jason had been away on his own mission for the duration of her investigation, so whatever insights he might have on the group he wouldn't be able to share until it was too late.
That fateful night, unbeknownst to her the night that would be the end of her life as Batgirl, it had been a rather plesant night, the skies were clear, it was rather warm, nothing that would foreshadow the trauma she would endure that night. She had discovered the location of the Pillow Girl outfit's base; a simple warehouse modified into some sort of holding facility.
As she would reflect many times, something odd was the lack of guards; Cass had investigated human traffickers before, and their holding facilities were swarming with guards, to dissuade the captives from escaping, and catching the ones that did. There was apparently no one patrolling, just a few people in what she was guessing was a control room. In the countless recollections of that night she would rage that she didn't stop to think that there was a reason they didn't need to patrol, but at the time she had smirked, thinking it would be easy to avoid the cameras, free the captive girls, and then fight off the few guards that would come.
This sense of smugness continued until she got to the holding room, set up more like some kind of hospital room than a holding facility, and as soon as Cass saw the sleeping women, she finally understood.
In a way Dick and Steph were partially right, some of the women had indeed been fattened up, others had their rears and bosoms enlarged to a ridiculous degree, but some still had their original figure. However there was something that connected them all, something that explained why they didn't need guards patrolling as densly as other outfits. Every single one of them was missing their arms, and their legs, leaving behind just a torso and a head. The name Pillow girl clearly a reference to the fact that they were effectively living body pillows, unable to move, a name hammered home by the fact that they appeared to be dressed in oversized pillow cases.
Spotting a pamphlet on the desk, Cass picked it up.

As she got to the end of the pamphlet Cass's vision starts to blur, in an instand she realises she must have triggered some kind of colourless, odorless knockout gas. Coughing she tries to make a break for it, but her limbs felt like they were made of stone, before long her legs gave out, sending her to the floor. Her knees slammed into the floor painfully, and the sedated girl moaned in pain.
Looking at her arms, which were splayed out in front of her, and feeling the pain in her knees, there was a part of Cassandra that, as the darkness took her, knew she would have neither when she woke up...
