Meeting Dylan Richards

"Mom I'm goin'!"

"Dylan! Dylan you be careful! Don't you get lost, now!"

"I'll be FINE mom! Jeez..."

"Have you got your phone?"

"Yes mom".

"And your powerbank?"

"Yes mom!"

"And your..."

"YES, MOM!!"

Jeeeez!!

Mrs Richards smiled and hugged her son, giving his chubby face a kiss.

"You have fun, sweetie!"

Dylan stuffed all the things he needed into his satchel, swung it over his shoulder and hurried out the door.

Dylan was ten years old, with light brown hair, and a fat, round body that wobbled and swayed as he waddled to the corner of the street to wait for the bus. He was 5'4" and 350lbs - properly fat, and properly round, and properly "cute, plump and chubby!" as his mother, aunt, and grandmother always said, all of them being rather oblivious of his enormous size!

"C"mon, c'mon!" he grumbled, checking his watch. The bus rounded the corner and he hopped on! Finally!

He settled into the ride downtown. He was going to the big comics convention downtown, hoping to meet some big names and faces, and maybe get some of his comics signed! He had them all in protective plastic sleeves inside his bag.

The convention center was huge, and packed! Everybody was lined up to go inside. Dylan paid his $5.00 and got a stamp on his wrist in blue ink, and hurried inside, the "ADMIT ONE" clearly visible on his chubby hand.

"Wooooow..." he said, staring around. There were secondhand comics for sale, there were famous artists and writers, and even a few big-name movie producers and actors from the latest MARVEL movies and other franchises all over the place!

Then he stopped. In the distance, he saw a huge, cardboard cutout on a sort of pedestal advertising his favourite character of all!

Excited, Dylan waddled forwards, trying to get to the front of the crowd. Standing on the pedestal was a cardboard cutout of a blonde-haired boy dressed in sandals and a toga, and on the bottom were the words: "PARIS THE PARAGON".

Paris was the latest superhero incarnation, a superpowered boy who traveled the world carrying out feats of heroism! Sitting in front of a table was a young man in his early twenties - Billy Landler - the artist who had created the character. Draped over the table was a large banner which read:

"PARIS THE PARAGON - Inspired and Dedicated to Flavius Aurelius".

Everybody knew the story of Billy Landler and his comic series. He'd been run over and almost killed in a traffic accident as a kid, but had been rescued by a shimmering golden light which had stayed with him and comforted him until the ambulances and police had arrived. The light had warmed his body and numbed his pain, stopped him from moving and held him together until paramedics could stabilise him and rush him to hospital, saving him from death by a broken neck after being bowled off his bicycle by a drunk driver.

The young man got to his feet, leaning on a crutch nearby.

"Thanks for coming, guys!" Billy said, "Please line up, and I'll be happy to autograph your copies of my latest issue!"

Everybody rushed to line up, and Dylan got in line. Billy picked up a rollerball pen to start signing copies, when a blinding flash of golden light filled the space in front of him! People covered their eyes and turned away, stunned by the blazing brightness! Dylan shut his eyes and put his hands over his face, but the light still blazed through so bright that Dylan could see the bones in his fingers!

Finally, the blazing light died away and Dylan, who was near the front of the line, peered cautiously out from behind his fingers.

WOAH!!

Standing in front of everybody, dressed in a crisp, white military-style uniform with a double-breasted tunic and crisp, white trousers and black dress-shoes, and decked out in gold braid with a solid gold crown on his head and studded with diamonds, and a long, white, gold-braid cloak across his broad chest and shoulders, which partially hid the handsome, ceremonial sabre hanging from his belt, was...

"Dude. C'mon. Not cool, bruh", Billy said, rolling his eyes.

"Hey, I gotta make an entrance, right?"

Eyes were GLUED to the figure before them, jaws dropped, eyes popping in shock!

The youth before them was tall, muscular, trim, with sharp, strong features, flawless soft skin as smooth as silk, and a devilishly handsome face that looked like it could grace any magazine cover in the world! The boy had neat, shimmering, wavy golden blonde hair that framed his handsome face and cascaded wildly down to his collarbone, and deep, piercing blue eyes.

More than a few girls nearby got a bit jittery.

Flavius waved an arm and swept his cloak aside so that the gold braid and buttons on his outfit sparkled and shimmered and he stepped forwards.

"Hey. How ya doin'? Flavius, nice to meetcha...sup dude? Yo..."

"Woooow!!" said a girl behind Dylan. Her friend also looked pretty excited. Dylan trembled! Flavius was getting closer and closer!...
