The Lupercal is a cave at the southwest foot of the Palatine Hill in Rome. In the legend of the founding of Rome, Romulus and Remus were found there by the she-wolf who suckled them until they were rescued by the shepherd Faustulus.
It is fitting then, that there is a shrine to Pan, god of shepherds, at the mouth of the cave.
Although both the shrine and the mouth of the cave can be quite busy during certain festivals, today both shrine and cave look abandoned. Were it not for an odd dream you had last night, you would not have come to the Lupercal yourself.
