There are two options

1. Harry really didn't knew what the necklace and ring meant. He bought the necklace in Muggle London and coincidentally buys the Master Ring in Diagon alley.

2. Harry lied during Christmas and bought or found the necklace with the intent on buying the Master Ring a bit later. He really wants to dominate Hermione.
