Three Rivals in Love

Jackie had finally made up her mind. She was going to confess today. Oliver, her long time best friend, hadn’t been able to leave her mind ever since last Summer. He had helped her get through an intense breakup and was the only person who was consistently there for her when she needed it.

Jackie: Okay I’m gonna do it. I have to do it today or else I’ll have lost my chanc-

Noelle: Do what exactly?

Noelle was Oliver’s new girlfriend. They had only been talking for a few weeks before they made it official. Now, a week into the new relationship, Oliver had invited all of his friends and his girlfriend over for a party at his house.

Although Jackie wasn’t the envious type, she had despised Noelle since the moment she had met her, and Noelle could sense it. There was always a lingering tension in the air whenever they shared a room. At first, Noelle had no clue why. Jackie was at least an 8/10 for anyone’s standards. This coupled with her olive skin and her deep-set, light brown eyes, it was hard to look away from her face to even notice the thin waist and long, toned legs. Noelle was no joke either. Her pale, clear skin was often the source for compliments since it contrasted well with her jet-black hair. Her lack of a lower asset had always clawed at the back of her mind, but this wasn’t a big deal when she could always show off her lean arms and perky breasts.

Knowing that this source of resentment hadn’t sourced from appearances, she could only surmise that it had to do with her and Oliver’s relationship. After all, she hadn’t known Jackie very long.

Jackie: Oh, nothing that concerns you. Stay out of my business.

Noelle: Excuse me!? I just wanted to see if you were alright. Now it’s obvious that you’re just a brat.

Jackie: I wouldn’t be such a brat if you weren’t here!

Emma: WOAH everyone let’s just calm down.

By now the argument between the two girls had erupted into a full-on screaming contest. Thankfully the only person nearby was Emma. With a light rosy skin tone and a smile that made anyone linger, the 5’7” Asian girl had often been the voice of reason. Whether it was the cheery personality or the shine in her eyes, it wasn’t often a person could stay mad after conversing with her.

Emma: What’s the problem? Why’re you two away from the party screaming at each other?

Noelle: Ask her. She’s the one who so obviously is in love with my boyfriend!

Jackie: That’s not true! I just… I just happen to not like you as his girlfriend.

Emma was shocked to hear this. Always putting others before herself, she had never taken the time to pursue the things she wanted in life when other people were after them. This came down to constantly finding a compromise, but it’s not like you can find a compromise in a relationship.

As Noelle smiles, pleased she had gotten the last word, she turns towards a defeated Emma. Suddenly the realization dawns on her.

Noelle: HOLY FUCK! You’re ALSO in love with him aren’t you!?

Emma: And so, what if I am? I was just gonna to let you have him anyway. I didn’t know Jackie would also be head over heels for him.

Jackie: Like I said. I’M NOT

Emma and Noelle: Sure, you aren’t.

Noelle: What do you mean, “Let you have him.” It’s not like you even stood a chance with that flat chest.

Emma: That’s easy for you to say when all you’ve got are bare bones back there.

Irritated and wanting to get over this before the pep in her confidence resided, Jackie had started heading towards the door to leave the bedroom and finally get it off her chest.

Jackie: You know what, fine. I told myself that I’d do this today, so that’s what I’m gonna do.

Noelle: Oh, baby there’s no way I’m gonna let you do that now. Now that Oliver and I are together, I’m not gonna let you tarnish that.

Emma: Like you could stand a chance. Both of you don’t realize that he needs a loving girlfriend like me in his life. Not some psychotic goth (Noelle) or an emotional brat (Jackie). I was gonna give him up, but now I’m offended, and I don’t care about being nice anymore!

Noelle: Ugh! Speak for yourself you, happy go-lucky freak!

Jackie: Yea! Like you have any semblance of a backbone in your body!

As the insults grew even louder, their voices began to reverberate throughout the room. So much so that a golden coin in the corner of the bedroom had begun to gleam. The shine of the gold was unnatural as there hadn’t been a bright source of light to reflect. Eventually it shone so much that altogether the 3 women stopped wailing and gazed at the coin.

Jackie: Why’s that glowing so brightly?

Noelle: I thought that was yours.

Jackie: Like I’d carry coins with me.

Emma: Well, whatever it is, I’m not getting a good feeling from it.

Noelle: What’re you? Scared of a little coin?

Jackie: Like I said, “No backbone.”

Emma: Shut up you two! If it’ll get you to stop bugging me, I’ll just put the coin in the drawer or something.

As Emma got closer to the luminescent coin, Jackie and Noelle had followed in pursuit as their curiosity got the better of them. Now on either side of her, the two had watched in anticipation as Emma reached for the coin.
