Belle was sitting underneath a large oak tree in a field just outside of town. It was her favorite place to read. It was easy for her imagination to picture ivory towers and cloud castles and running rivers springing forth from the meadow.
On this particular day, she was reading one of her favorite books, completely lost in a story with a prince in disguise courting a magical princess. Belle was so caught up in the story that she never saw a giant beanstalk descending down from the clouds. It was only when the beanstalk crashed into the ground and sent Belle sprawling that she noticed the beanstalk at all.
It was understandable that Belle sat in stunned silence, looking at the giant green stalk stretching down from the sky. Even though the stalk had only hit the ground just a few minutes ago, it look as if the root system had been digging into the ground for decades.
The stunned Belle watched as a figure appeared from the clouds above, sliding down the beanstalk. Within a matter of seconds, a sixty foot tall giant was towering over Belle, looking down at her.
Belle had read about giants in her books, of course. They were always described as either menacing or comical, and often some kind of strange juxtaposition of the two traits. The giant looking down at Belle was neither. He was fair skinned, blonde, blue eyed and handsome. And not the arrogant sort of handsome that Gaston was.
Before Belle could react, she found herself scooped up by the giant. He held her up to his face, the blue eyes studying her unfathomable.
In a bass voice that sent pleasant little tremors through Belle's body, the giant said, "You'll make her good company."
Before Belle could respond, the giant placed her into a pocket. Belle found herself being bounced around in darkness for an indeterminable amount of time. Then, without warning, Belle found herself pulled from the pocket and placed into a giant bird cage. Inside the cage was another young woman, who would soon introduce herself as
