Chapter #4

K'normian

    by: Sung'manitu Author IconMail Icon
Your name is j’Tec Lampet. Well, it was j’Tec Lampet.

You were an eighteen year old K’Normian heading to Starfleet Academy.

The K’normians were human in appearance, save that they have larger foreheads. This is because the K’normians have an additional structure to their brain that allows them to communicate telepathically with each over great distances…even light years! This is due in part to K’normians having an almost intuitive sense of the space-time continuum.

There are limitations and drawbacks to this eighth sense. For one thing, K’normians can only communicate telepathically with other K’normians. And to other telepathic species, K’normians are a blank slate. Plus, being inside a warp bubble temporarily blinds a K’normians eighth sense.

And there in lies the seed of your fate. There was a lot of mental trauma in the early days of warp travel, until a mental discipline technique was developed that allowed the average K’normian to deal with being “warp blinded.” Unfortunately, there was an extreme faction of K’normians that felt it was unnatural and immoral to travel by warp, and went to extreme lengths to try to get the rest of K’normian society from using warp travel. This included terrorist acts.

The storms on your planet often interfere with the use of transporter technology, and so you had to hitch a ride on a cargo shuttle heading to your planet’s main orbital platform. From there, you would transfer to a Starfleet vessel heading to Earth.

On the ride up to orbit, you were able to spot the explosives mixed in with the cargo, and realized the shuttle pilot was on a suicide mission to destroy your planet’s main space station, and any starships docked with it.

You were able to stop the terrorist attack, but only at the cost of your own life. You died a hero, and were honored by both your home world and Starfleet.

THE END.

You've come to the end of the story. You can:
