Talya's story.

"I- I was born here, in this city." Timidly, Talya began. "My parents kind of kept me sheltered as I could not seem to grasp magick at any level, up until I reached thirteen."

I turned to the cards and saw them shift, showing the Tower card which indicated a major shift in Talya's life and the Five of Cups indicating grief. "Only something drastic happened upon reaching the age of thirteen." Calmly, I said. "What was it?"

Tears formed in Talya's eyes. "I found that I can make magick stronger or make it not work at all." Softly, she replied. "This seemed to make my parents more interested in training me but far more protective; it frightened me..."

"So your talent is not in using magick but amplifying or denying it in other magick users." Calmly, I said. "That make you a familiar, my dear."

"A familiar...?" Uncertain, Talya asked.

I nodded. "Typically, a familiar is an animal; likely a cat or crow that possesses unimaginable magical power." Kindly, I explained. "While they can not use it, they can grant some or all of it to a witch or her coven to greatly increase their powers."

"But... I'm a human." Confused, I said.

I smiled at that. "A human familiar is very rare." Softly, I replied. "You are literally one in a million but, all that magick will need an outlet so I suspect more powers will surface in the near future."

"Maybe that was what the robbers were after." Fearful, Talya said. "Mom and dad told me to run the moment they confronted them."

"So your parents bought you time to run from the robbers." Seeing the cards shift again, I said. "I take it you can no longer sense their magick..."

Talya began to sob. "No; I can't." Sadly, she replied. "I fear they are...."

She could not finish and began to wail into her hands. Wincing, I turned to the cards then sighed seeing...
