Chapter #5

Testing the waters.

by: Scifiwizard Retired Author IconMail Icon
My name is Felicity Misceo. Both my brother and I have years of experience in using our abilities... in controlled environments. Mom and dad are possessively protective of us. It took much convincing to gain permission to attend Our Founder's High School. I found it bemusing that they gave us both male and female uniforms though Finn did not see the humor. Having researched the social hierarchy, we were not surprised by certain groups giving us a death glare for the 'crime' of entering their territory. In fact, neither of us were phased in the least.

Still, he and I played the role of the shy new kids in school just to see what the others would do. It was not really a game but an indirect way to test the waters. It was just as I had expected, in the beginning. Most of the kids avoided us and those we talked to quickly learned they would have to earn a response from us. Again, it was not a game but a worry; as I said, our parents are possessively protective.

As lunch came and went, I discovered it was a secret game around school to get the new students to come out of their shell and Finn and I were the newest 'contestants'. I caught one student approaching me out of the corner of my eye just as Finn was contacting me through my locker mirror. Fortunately, only I could see him due to our telepathic link; still, it was bad timing.

"I wish to research the cheerleading squad." Flatly, Finn said. "I have a suspicion that they are far more than they appear."

"No, I can't let you peek in on the locker room." Patiently, I whispered.

"Why not... I have experienced everything you had growing up." Calmly, Finn argued. "The girls have nothing I have not seen in the mirror countless of times."

"What do you mean why not!?" Annoyed, I demanded. "It's the Girls' locker room, stupid!" I sighed, hearing Finn's groan. "Look, I know we are twins, and that we can not help being able to look through each other's eyes, but come on, you're a boy!..."

"A boy who can easily become female, if I so choose." With a grin, Finn countered.

I returned Finn's grin. "I know you can become female at will so just do it and walk right in." Bemused, I said. "No one will give you a second glance; the cheerleaders may even let you try out."

With that, I closed the locker, as if to 'hang up' on my brother. I held back a giggle, wondering what my brother would do as I walked off to the girl's locker room. I deliberately ignored the student watching me but kept my senses sharp to see what she would do.
