One of the Chaos emeralds merges into him

Sonic the Hedgehog rushed as fast he could through the gaps and obstacles of Hilltop Zone. In his arms he held the blue Chaos Emerald. His buddy Tails had tasked him with retrieving the powerful artifact so that he could use it to power another invention, one that he promised would surpass The Tornado Mark II. It was a dangerous task given that the closet emerald had somehow found its way onto of a volcano but Tails knew after all they had been through together that Sonic could retrieve it safely without even losing a ring, and that's exactly what he did.

"I told Tails I'd be back in an hour and its only been 30 minutes." Sonic said out loud. "I've outdone myself!" Now that he had the emerald all he had to do was breeze his way down the hill and get to the workshop. Sonic was about to jump over a spike pic when scurrying feral squirrel got in his in his way. He managed to jump over it and the spikes no problem but his landing was completely messed up from his defensive running.

He stumbled and landed on his chest, pressing the emerald against his heart. Upon doing this the emerald glowed slightly and sank into Sonics chest like a ghost phasing through a wall. Sonic felt this happen slightly but he was too busy catching his bearing to completely comprehend what had just happened. When he finally got, he saw that the emerald was indeed gone.

"It vanished!" Sonic gasped bewilderedly. "And I think it might have gone inside me? That certainty is new!"

Not sure how alarmed he should be about having a chaos emerald trapped inside his body, he decided it was probably a good idea to check himself before returning to Tails. As he did so he thought he felt like energy was poring into him.
