"Captain's log. 2167. My search for Sovereign's fabled conduit has proven difficult. Leads are rare and the little I find always lead to dead ends. It's been over a year since Sovereign and I made our alliance and so far I have nothing to show for it, and yet something in me refuses to give up the search." A Turian sits in a captain's chair in a dark room, his talons massaging his temples. He lets out a frustrated sigh and ends the recording. "Goddamn headache." He spat at seemingly no-one. A robotic voice replies.
"Saren. I need not remind you what is at stake. You will find the Conduit and we will both achieve what we desire most." The voice, despite having no emotion fluctuations, sounded cold and hostile. It was not encouraging, but rather reminding Saren of its demands.
"Sovereign. Perhaps I'd find it if you'd give me anything to go off of." Saren snapped and clutched his head again. "Gah! Spirits!" He curses. His headaches have gotten more frequent and worse lately. Saren makes his way to the ship's dining hall grabbing some water.
"Have you eaten?" Sovereign asks. "You organics need nourishment or your body's fail." Sovereign continues.
Saren rolls his eyes. "Yes I've eaten."
"The meal you ate seemed smaller than usual." Sovereign observed.
"Of course it was, I haven't been exercising as much due to roaming the galaxy looking for this conduit. I'm not going to let myself get fat looking for this thing." Saren replies.
"Fat?" Sovereign says.
"Spirits help me..." Saren says under his breath. Sovereign seems to seek out knowledge it does not have, leading Saren to wonder how a race could wipe out an entire galaxy of life if they'd all get distracted when told a word they don't know. But if playing teacher to a Reaper is what convinces them that some organics can survive to the next cycle then Saren would play along. When he didn't have a pounding headache. "Look it up on the extranet. I'm going to sleep this off. You can navigate yourself for the time being." Saren states as he heads towards his room.
Sovereign observes as Saren sulks off. The synthetic knows when Saren awakes his headache will be lesser, since Sovereign is the one causing it. The process of indoctrination could be painless but Sovereign finds there are times when Saren has to be reminded that as an organic he is fragile. Controlling Saren while ensuring he believes he's still in control of his desires and actions isn't nearly as taxing as Sovereign imagined it would be, leading to Sovereign to feel what he believes the organics refer to as boredom. Perhaps this is why Sovereign does access the extranet and looks up "Fat" for educational purposes.
"Fat is the bulk of adipose tissue, consisting chiefly of cells distended with greasy or oily matter."
Another search.
"Adipose tissue is used for the storage of fat within the body."
A third,
"...fat is gained through consuming more calories than burned through activity."
a fourth,
"Calories are a measure of energy obtained through digesting food."
and more.
"Frequent consumption of high calorie foods can lead to gaining weight."
"Gaining weight causes an increase in the amount of fat in one's body. Frequent exercise is recommended to avoid becoming overweight."
"Overweight is defined as a weight above what is considered normal."
"Obese is defined as very fat. Health issues can arise from high levels of fat."
Sovereign soon finds himself going down a rabbit hole of research. Organics could be made weaker by simple...excess? Ideas begin to form. Sovereign finds himself feeling curious, he could influence Saren to consume more and crave higher calorie foods and Sovereign could see the effects of gaining weight and increased fat could have on a strong warrior such as Saren, perhaps this could lead to new tactics he and his brethren could use in future cycles. Or...he could not influence Saren. His research seems to suggests, that given the chance, organics will consume excess to stave off boredom or to attempt to regulate extreme emotions.
The process of finding the Conduit will be a long and potentially uneventful one. Perhaps a pet project is in order. For educational purposes of course. Sovereign knows he can effortlessly shift Saren's desires and actions to suit his own...or perhaps he just tempts the Turian and sees if Saren would let himself get fat looking for the Conduit.
