You have inherited a large house out in the far countryside from your estranged uncle. As you could barely manage to pay rent and keep up with all the stresses of the busy city you decide that moving to a quiet place to restart is your best option. after many long hours of driving you finally arrive at the old abandoned house. It looked like at one point it had been a barn that was added onto and converted into a large house and according to your will, was converted in the 1800s. there was hundreds of acres of land in every direction that now belongs to you. After taking in the scene you step inside the house. there is a thick layer of dust on the creaking floorboards and the wallpaper was pealing in places. It gave that creepy sort of vibe you would get from going into a haunted house, but considering that the entrance hallway was longer than your last apartment was wide, you look past all the cleaning and renovations that need to be done for the moment. You soon find the kitchen, which surprisingly has a working oven, fridge, and a fully stocked pantry; so you weren’t gonna go hungry anytime soon. You begin wondering if it’s worth exploring the house or bringing all of your belongings in first when you hear a knock at the door.
When you open the front door, you find yourself in front of a cloaked hooded girl, no taller than 5 foot. “Good evening” she says to you politely, “are you the one who has inherited this property from your uncle Mr Frankferdtin?”
“Ye- yes I am” you stutter not expecting anyone. “Wonderful, my name is Shimmer, I was previously the maid and companion to your late uncle. when he passed, I was no longer bound to serve whoever inherited this place next, but as I have come to call this place my home I was wondering if I could stay here and serve you as I served him?” She explained and asked politely.
You are surprised by this statement as your uncle was not known for living with others as he was quite reclusive. Like your uncle you prefer to be alone But then you consider that this house seems to be quite large, and it will probably be quicker to have a secondary person help you restore it rather than doing it all by yourself. “Very well Shimmer, you may stay here and work for me” you say to her. overjoyed, she jumps up and clings you tightly in a hug. You are a bit surprised, but lightly pat her on the back. You then realize that her hood is fully down and you see her face fully for the first time. you are then completely surprised and fall down in shock because instead of lots of hair you see her entire head except for her mouth was being concealed by over a dozen white bird wings, each a foot long in length.
Realizing that she startled you, six of her wings start flapping and she pulls herself and you off the ground and she places you back on your feet standing up. “I’m sorry master, I did not mean to startle you like that” she apologized. You shake your head, trying to shake off the shock. “Do- don’t worry shimmer, I am all right. I was just not expecting your head to be covered with wings” you say still slightly surprised. “What exactly are you?” you ask hoping you don’t sound rude. “Well, I am what people used to call a Spectre. But you can call me a Spook if you want it to be less formal. Basically I am a more physical type of ghost that can interact with living beings, and I am capable of using some types of magic. Let me show you.” She says, she completely pulls off her cloak, revealing that she’s already wearing her maid outfit. Her arms past her elbows and her hands (that were wearing black fingerless lace gloves), and her legs past her knees, were all a light translucent blue. The rest of her visible skin was a pale with little glints of silver here and there. She then raises her left hand and it completely passed through the open front door and popped out the other side. Pulling her arm back in, she gave the door a small tap with her pointer finger, and it closed by itself. When the door closed, the entrance hallway was completely black, but then with the snap of her fingers it was illuminated by her translucent arms and legs which were glowing blue light. She snaps her fingers again, her body stops glowing, and the front door opens of its own accord.
You are dumbfounded by all of this and yet intrigued. “I recognizing that all this might be too much for you, but I hope I can prove myself to you and that you will treat me well” she said imploringly. “why would I not treat you well? You probably know this place far better than I ever will and you’re willing to help me which I greatly appreciate. Was my uncle hard on you or something?” You ask. she sniffed a little bit. “Your uncle tried getting me out of here by force when he inherited this place from another relative, but when he saw how useful I was to him, he made me do everything and never treated me as an equal. In fact, the only place I could be if I wasn’t working was in the top most part of the attic.” She sighed almost crying. You kneel so that your heads are level and you try to look her in the eyes, but she has them covered with some of her wings. “I’m sorry that you were treated that way. I would not consider myself the nicest person in the world, but I’ll do my best to treat you better than here he did.” You said reassuringly. “thank you master. May I give you another hug before I start my work?” “yes” you answer and embrace her in a gentle squeeze.
When she released you, she seems a bit more joyful. “So what would you like to do first master? Do you want help bringing your belongings in or do you want me to show you around the house?” She asked. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
