This choice: Emma decides she wants to take a walk • Go Back...Chapter #6...and Emma bumps into Simon at the Pet Foods. by: Unknown "Simon!"
Simon looked up from heaving up a massive box of pet food due to be stored in the store's warehouse. He tucked it with ease under his arm as he watched the store manager clack closer towards him. Emma seemed to be in a much more chipper mood than before, or at least that's what she wanted him to think with that forced, crimson-lipped grin.
"Emma!" he hollered. "How'er you doing?"
"Fine, fine." She sighed and tucked a lock of dark brown hair behind her ear as she looked over the store security guard, who was not only far away from his post but also aiding with store duties. "Why are you down here, Simon?"
"Erm," he murmured, scratching his shaved scalp, "No reason. Just, y'know, thought I might need the exercise."
"Uh-huh." Emma pursed her lips and crossed her arms. "Who're you covering for?"
"Luke," Simon sighed, not in the mood to lie. "But don't blame the kid though; he's on the verge of a nervous breakdown."
"Over what?"
A sly smirk spread across Simon's face. He looked over each shoulder, once then twice, before opening the left side of his bulky leather jacket and procuring a pretty little envelope, coloured a cute fuchsia pink and sealed with a (clip-on) professional red wax seal.
"A love letter?" Emma guffawed as she gently took the envelope from Simon's hands and carefully opened it up for her eyes to roam over its contents. "Oh my goodness..."
"Yup. With all the sappy, heart-struck angst expected of a teen."
"Is that a...kiss?!" Emma squealed in second-hand embarrassment. "Don't tell me he stole his Mum's lipstick just to do that!"
"Don't know, didn't really want to ask," Simon laughed. "All he wanted me to do was pass it onto Rebekah for him. But honestly, I'm not sure if actually going through with it would be a disservice to the poor lad."
Emma giggled as she passed the envelope back to Simon.
"Why don't you hold onto that for a couple more minutes while I go fetch him? Maybe I can help him muster up the courage to do it himself, face-to-face."
Simon grinned. "That'd be class, cheers."
Emma returned his smile, genuinely this time. Ah, the stupidity of workplace turmoil always seemed to bring her out of her wretched moods. She loosened her back by rolling her shoulders backwards, unintentionally causing a booger to dislodge from her nostril and caused a green streak to run down onto her top lip.
Emma cursed as she noticed it and snorted as much as she could back up. She rummaged in her pocket, grabbed one of the frilly tissues stuffed inside there, and hastily scrubbed the excess snot away.
"You alright?" Simon asked.
"Yeah," Emma sniffled, "Just one of those winter colds. It'll pass by tomorrow."
"Oh alright. Well, good luck with Luke."
Emma chuckled. "Thanks," she chirped as she nodded his way one last time and strutted off. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
